- Head Counselor/Assistant Director
Description
Are you the rare camp legend who’s ready for the next step?
Camp Wigwam, a classic boys’ residential camp on the shores of Bear Lake in Maine, is looking for that ever-elusive “middle management” superstar—someone who can lead with confidence, support young staff with heart, and still savor the joy of campfires, canoes, and controlled chaos.
If you love camp culture, thrive in a leadership role, and relish the chance to help shape an entire community for a summer, this might be the best job you ever take.
About the Role
We call it a Head Counselor. Some camps call it an Assistant Director. Really, it's a high-impact leadership role that sits right at the heart of Wigwam’s daily life. You’ll serve as the essential bridge between our counselor staff (university aged) and the camp directors—part coach, part mentor, part operations wrangler, part problem-solver, part cheerleader.
You’ll have your fingerprints on almost every area of camp: supporting staff, guiding campers, coordinating schedules, jumping in on trips, smoothing logistical bumps, collaborating with maintenance, kitchen, and nursing… and occasionally helping stop a runaway gaga ball tournament.
You report directly to the Camp Director/Owner, which really means we’re side-by-side teammates all summer long. Trust, communication, and partnership are the cornerstones of this role. And yes—when difficult calls arise, we’ll need you standing with us.
