Description
What does it mean to be a camp counselor?
- Being a counselor at Friends Camp provides the opportunity to live in, engage with, and help build an intentional, inclusive community where we strive to achieve belonging and connection for everyone.
- Cabin counselors have the biggest role in creating an amazing camp experience for kids aged 7-17!
- Counselors are in charge of planning creative programming for campers and creating community in their cabins, and some counselors are lifeguards as well. We encourage counselors to bring their own interests and talents to the job, so a sense of creativity is important. Activities often include sports, arts and crafts, boating, nature activities, games like Dungeons and Dragons, and games of your own invention—the wackier the better!
- Counselors live in cabins with between 5 and 10 campers each session, and almost always with a co-counselor.
- Counselors get two days off per two-week session, in addition to over a full day off between sessions. Laundry and (delicious) meals are provided, and bedding can be provided for staff traveling from far away.
What is Friends Camp?
- Friends Camp is a Quaker overnight camp located in beautiful central Maine. As a Quaker camp, we prioritize values including peace, equality, and simplicity. We welcome and value people of all religious and spiritual identities, including atheists and agnostics, and we do not proselytize.
- The 2026 summer season goes from June 12th to August 15th, including one week of staff training and 8 weeks of camp. The summer is split into four two-week sessions: the first session with kids ages 7-12, the second with ages 10-13, and the final two sessions with ages 13-17.
- We offer boys', girls', and gender-expansive cabins, but we do not divide campers by gender in other areas at camp, and welcome folks of all identities.
Salary: $450-500 per week, for 9 weeks.
